Federal Councilor Doris Leuthard, Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) paid a two-day visit to the Republic of Korea.
Mrs. Leuthard and her delegation also visited several South Korean companies especially active in the field of solar cells, hydrogen engines and energy storage. One of the Korean companies is Dongjin Semichem, which is working for the commercialization of Prof. Grätzel’s technology. She was accompanied by a delegation of representatives of the Swiss economy (Cleantech) and the scientific community.
As for the scientific impression in Korea, the delegation visited Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and inviting Korea’s excellent scientists and policy makers in the area of Cleantech and Energy. In KIST, three heads of the energy centers welcomed the delegation and presented about their researches in Energy Convergence, Fuel Cell, and Clean Energy.
At the networking dinner reception, Korean experts were invited from Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO) for their energy policy and its cooperative project with Switzerland. Professors from Seoul National University and K-Water were invited on Korea’s rain water management system and Energy New Industry in Korea. Korea Smart Grid Institute presented their smart energy grids collaboration with ETH Zurich.
She met with Choi Yanghee, Minister for Science, Information and Communication Technologies. The program also included talks with Environment Minister Yoon Seong-kyu, the Vice Transport Minister Yeo Hyung-Kyu, and with Vice Minister of Energy Moon Jae-do.
