The Science & Technology Office (STO) of the Embassy of Switzerland and the Swiss Post co-organized on July 13, 2017, the Swiss Post Innovation Pitch Contest at Google Campus. The pitch competition reunited 5 promising start-ups in front of an audience of 50 people, composed by Swiss and Korean industry players. The start-up Everspin was awarded after the deliberation of the jury members presided by the Swiss Post. After the contest, a networking aperitif with Swiss food and wine was organized.
This event was part of the Swiss Post Asian start-up scouting tour for its open innovation (combination with a trip to Japan, China and Korea organized by STOs Asia network) . As an innovative company in Switzerland, the Swiss Post collaborates with start-ups on its 4 key markets which are communication, logistics/e-commerce, retail finance, and transportation/mobility. By developing and testing new technologies, the Swiss Post enhances its digital transformation and improves its services. Some examples of innovations and fruitful collaborations with start-ups include driverless shuttles in the city of Sion, drone delivery for hospital logistics, last-mile delivery by robots or e-voting platform. In 2016, Swiss Post executives’ members already visited Korea, Japan and China to seek for inspiration and innovative solutions for their business. This time, Mr. Golliard, Head of Open Innovation and Venturing, made it to Asia with the goal of finding potential partners and building more concrete collaboration.
The following start-ups took part of the Swiss Post Innovation Pitch Contest:
- Who’s Good, a fintech start-up providing robo-analyzed data of companies helping investors make better investment decisions.
- Irisys, developers of LOCKIT, the smallest portable iris recognition device in the world for security applications.
- GoGoVan, an online platform that provides professional delivery services, think ‘Uber’ but for logistics.
- DAYLI Intelligence, a provider of distributed ledger technology with innovative blockchain solutions.
- Everspin, a patent-protected dynamic security solution for mobile applications.
Our jury composed by Mr. Golliard, Nathan Millard, CEO of G3 Partners and Christian Barde, CEO of Parafe, particularly impressed by the quality of the pitches, finally decided to award Everspin for its impressive growth during the past few months and for the potential easiness of its solution for implementation within Swiss Post.
This event was also the occasion to promote Swiss excellence in innovation. Ms. Lim, Deputy Head of the Science & Technology Office presented the last numbers and success stories in Swiss innovation. The presentation from STO is available here.
Through its 2-day visit, the Swiss Post could draw a better picture of Korean innovation strengths and get some valuable contacts for further discussions and follow-ups. Other business meetings were arranged by the STO with bigger companies and start-ups during the visit. We hope that future partnerships for innovative projects will arise from this Asian tour!
