Patrick Aebischer, the President of the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), in Switzerland received honorary degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and gave a speech at the 2016 commencement address accepting his honorary degree.

President Aebischer received his degrees from University of Geneva (MD; 1980) and University of Fribourg (Dr.Med.; 1983) of Switzerland. He has been leading EPFL as one of the top institutions worldwide.
He also has an outstanding background as a founder of three different start-ups.
- In 1989, he founded CytoTherapeutics Inc. (now StemCells Inc.), which is a biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of stem cell-based therapies.
- In 1996, he founded Modex Terapeutics Inc., also a biotechnology company based in Lausanne with a focus on tissue repair and replacement and regeneration (T3R).
- Lastly, in 2007, he founded Amazentis SA, an active startup in the convergence space of medication and nutrition.
He is also currently on the boards of Nestle Health Science since 2011 and Lonza Group since 2008.
