Seoul 4-11 Jul
ICHEP is a series of international conferences organized by the C11 commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). It has been held every two years since more than 50 years, and is the ref-erence conference of particle physics where most relevant results are presented.
At ICHEP, physicists from around the world gather to share the latest advancements in particle physics, astro-physics/cosmology, and accelerator science and discuss plans for major future facilities.
This year a delegation of more than 50 people from CERN participated to the conference in Seoul. Fabiola Giannotti, CERN’s Director also joined the big community of physicists in Seoul. She also participated to a VIP meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Science and ICT and Seoul Metropolitan Government. Ko-rean scientists brought to the attention of the Government the proposition to open a branch of CERN in Korea especially useful for data analysis. Indeed, Korea invest more then 4M USD per year to support scientists moving to CERN to perform experiments and analyse data. The possibility of a branch here in Korea would make the research more sustainable and open other opportunities. Also the place has been identified, as a currently empty building before used for Data Science. Discussions are still on-going.
