Swiss-Korean Innovation Week 2018

On February 05-09, 2018 a delegation of 28 people from Switzerland joined the STO in Seoul to participate to the Swiss-Korean Innovation Week. Representatives from universities and research institutions (Basel, EPFL, PSI, CSEM), startups and companies working in life science and medical technologies actively participated to the different sessions sharing information, contents and feedbacks. The week consisted in different events and networkis sessions. More specifically,a startup workshop was co-organized by Chrstian Schneider, Head of innovation at the University of Basel, and Jung-Hyun Lee, Innovation Scout at STO, to facilitate the exchange of information between Swiss and Korean players in medical technology field and establish new networks with mentors and venture capitalists; a design thinking workshop for medtech lead by Raymond Erdmann, from Erdmann Design, aimed to enhance creativity and an initiative guided by Frank Kumli and Thomas Brenzikofer from Day.one focused on precision medicine to build to concrete innovative projects in this field between the two countries.

 

During the 5th Life Science Symposium Swiss and Korean experts from private sector and research met to exchange visions and scientific advancements around the topic of “How innovation in medical technology and precision medicine improves our life” and 8 startups from Switzerland exhibited their technologies and met the interested audience. TWIICE, Feeltronix, Hemotune, Metaphysiks, Baseport, GratXray, Clinerion and Lunaphore, the 8 companies which joined us from the whole Switzerland activelly participated to all the activities and had the opportunity to meet companies and research institutions in meeting organized in advance by STO. The delegation attended a total of 33  B2B meetings and established new connections for the development of new research collaborations and trials.

 During the Closing Event of the Swiss-Korean Innovation Week, the Launch of the Life Science Initiative Advisory Committee took also place in presence of the president of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset and the Minister of Health and Welfare Neunghoo Park. This moment represented the official start of the operational phase of the Life Science Initiative as follow-up of the MoU signed in 2016 between EAER and Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare.
