The Republic of Korea is the most innovative country in the world according to Bloomberg Innovation Index. From its humble beginnings in the 1960s as a poor nation until today, Korea has made impressive advancements in technology and it is now a globally leading R&D power in areas of industrial research (IT, communication, transport, civil engineering). The Korean Government also invests heavily in R&D and the number of  public research institutes and universities constantly increases.

76.53% of research in South Korea is mainly developed by business sector (especially big conglomerates as Samsung, LG and Hyundai), 11.73% by the Government, 10.09% by Higher Education Sector and 1.65% by Private non-profit sector.
